Bolster a major skincare brand’s positioning on the sunscreen market

CONTEXT

Distributed through pharmacies, Avène dermatological laboratories market a wide range of products suitable for even the most sensitive skins, all using a key active ingredient: Avène Thermal Spring Water (Eau thermale Avène).
With their soothing and anti-irritating properties, the products in the Eau thermale range have become standard care for sensitive skin across the globe, delivering a combination of dermatological efficacy and pleasant textures.
The sunscreen range (15 products) is particularly broad with products suited to every type of skin.

CHALLENGE

A strategic decision was made: to bolster the brand’s overall image, the packaging identity for the sunscreen range had to be overhauled with two primary targets:

  • Use a contemporary register to convey the fundamental values of the Eau thermale Avène brand on the sunscreen market;
  • Make the style of the sunscreen range more consistent with the other brand lines.
SOLUTION

The solution borrows from the codes that make Avène’s identity: the powerful brand symbol is managed carefully with its thin spiral that keeps the packaging sober, consistent with the ethics and authenticity associated with Eau thermale Avène.
The UVA and UVB protection symbols are placed together inside the quality seal. The typography chosen and clean presentation of the texts give the packaging a more contemporary and feminine feel.
New color codes add a touch of refinement to the range’s established personality.
